Monitoring activities are consistent with licensing, regulatory approvals and requirements set out in the Wuskwatim PDA. Monitoring began even before construction to establish baseline conditions for use in measuring potential construction and operations impacts.
During construction, which involved disturbances to land and water in the vicinity of the generating station, rigorous monitoring was conducted on all phases of the project (access road construction, site preparation and dam construction) and is continuing now that the station is operating. Monitoring requirements include impacts such as: environmental (aquatic, terrestrial), heritage/archaeological, economic (employment, income, purchasing) and social impacts on residents and communities.
WPLP publishes annual Monitoring Overview reports, which can be downloaded by clicking here to link to the reports page.
